YOU’RE NOT SPECIAL AND THAT’S OK!

I was actually reading “Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” and I kind of realized why it became a huge hit. The book never tells you to become something different than your actual personality, in fact, every chapter deals with how you can stop getting wrong motivation and start thinking like a human being. I read the topic “You’re not special” and I just felt that I needed to share some amazing points which might help you in dealing with uncomfortable situations. Let’s get into it…shall we?

  1. Merely feeling good about yourself doesn’t mean anything unless you have a good reason to feel good about yourself

Success and Failure are something that we go through commonly, we’re happier when we’re successful and we’re sad when we fail. But between these 2 extremes lie a much bigger picture that we often fail to observe, to put it simply, when we’re successful, we never think “what’s the reason for this success” and when we fail, we never think “How/why did I fail”. We simply get mixed in the emotions and forget these minute details. When a person gets to know about his/her bad food habits, they’ll probably try to regulate them and start their fitness journey with a new insight. If they would have thought “Ummm! These donuts are good” then there will probably be no space for improvement. Next time rationally question what you’re doing, probably you’ll engage more with yourself and end up on the brighter side of the topic.

2. Why being a self-worthy person is a good idea?

The author gives a good reason to become a self-worthy person. He introduces us to 2 different psychological states, an “Entitled” person and a “Self Worthy” person. An entitlement is a kind of state where you start thinking that you’re superior, whatever great happens in your life is because of you and whatever bad happens to you is because of others’ jealousy (You probably might have seen people with such characteristics!) On the other hand, we have a self-entitled state which is pretty much logical in thinking. People in this state have a sense of what they’re doing, if they succeed in something, they know what was the reason for it and if they fail at something, they know that the problem lies in them as well.

A very good way to become a self-entitled person is to start journaling and guess what? I have already made a post on “The Power of Journaling”. I’ll be dropping the link below, make sure you check that out after you finish with this one

3. Tyranny of Exceptionalism!

Let me give you a narrative with which this concept can be clearly understood. Power is an expanding force, when you’re powerful/good at some area, you’re bad in other areas, and this is why your strength in a particular area becomes your identity. An actor identified with his/her acting skills but at the same time, they might be struggling to find a good life partner. An actor’s strength overshadows his/her weakness and makes them look exceptional coz power is an expanding force. But there’s a slight twist to this, and that brings us to our last point

4. If I’m not going to be special or extraordinary, what’s the point?

The word “average” is the new way of mocking people for their weakness, but the very same average can get you to do anything once you start concentrating on improving the average part. Every good player was once an average, every good actor was once an average, and every good writer was once an average. So how did they become something special? At some point in their time, they would have stopped their obsession with being extraordinary and started improving realizing that they aren’t that great and they need to work on themselves more. Ultimately, improving becomes an obsession, and when that happens, you get to rise in the hierarchy ultimately achieving some great feats. But a very important point that every one of them will remember is that THEY ARE NOT SPECIAL!

There you go, folks! That’s it for today’s post. If my words have lightened up your day or Motivated you to think from a different perspective, kindly share this. Thank you for spending your precious time, have a great day!
